Just to remind everyone that there will be a mental health open day at St Andrews tomorrow night.
I hope you can make it.
It is mental health week this week, I am helping out at St Andrews Mental Health Hospital on Wednesday 5:00-8:00 pm. I hope to see some of you there.

Also this weeks quote is:
"Intelligence comes into being when the mind, the heart, and the body are really harmonious"
This is a beautiful quote, reminding us that even when we are in a stationary pose, we are still moving, taking our awareness to a deeper level, to the breath!
"Your hand opens and closes. If it was always a fist or always stretched open, you would be paralyzed. Your deepest presence is in every small contracting and expanding, the two as beautifully balanced and coordinated as bird wings."
Hello everyone out there in internet land. Here is the quote of the week, a good one being in mind what we are trying to do in Yoga. I often say to new students at the various sports centres I teach at, Yoga is not a exercise, if you want a exercise class, try the class next door.
"The purpose of Yoga is awareness, not perfected poses, beliefs, or any kind of attainment. Awareness from moment to moment requires quiet strength, flexibility and balance. A good Yoga practice develops exactly these characteristics."
The quote for this week is
"The purpose of Yoga is awareness, not perfected poses, beliefs, or any kind of attainment. Awareness from moment to moment requires quite strength, flexibility and balance. A good Yoga practice develops exactly these characteristics"
"When there is no mind, you are in Yoga; when there is mind you are not in Yoga. So you may do all the postures, but if the mind goes on functioning, if you go on thinking, you are not in Yoga. Yoga is the state of no mind. If you can be without the mind without doing any postures, you have become a perfect yogi. It has happened to many without doing the postures, and it has not happened to many who have been doing postures for many lives."

This weeks quotation from my Yoga journal. Not only is there some lovely quotes, but also it gives me a focus on what I am trying to teach in each weeks class. Can you guess what this weeks class is going to be?
"Hatha Yoga teaches us to use the body as the bow, asana as the arrow, and the soul, the target"
I have been writing into various journals for 8 years now, with the Asanas I have used, how they feel, what Pranayama I have done and how that has effected me, the usual stuff you would put into a Yoga journal. Normally buying one of those rather nice books you can get from W H Smiths. I have recently brought a Yoga journal book and in it is some lovely sayings and quotes. Each week I will be using one of them in my classes, here is the first one I have been using from Monday.
"When the breath wanders the mind also is unsteady. But when the breath is calmed the mind too will be still, and the Yogi achieves long life. Therefore, one should learn to control the breath"
Just to let you all know there is no Men's classes on the 26th February and 5th March. We will be back on the 12th March.
